Transporter
Because we are still such a small rescue and have such very high hopes, many of the pets that we rescue are transferred to other, larger groups all over the state of California. Through transporters and thanks to larger rescues in the San Francisco Bay Area, Emmie's Animal Rescue has rescued over 1200 adoptable dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, and even bunnies since we got started in April 2006! With more volunteer transporters to travel to/from the Bay Area with a carload of pets, we can make this number even larger!!
Did you know that the Central California Fresno SPCA receives over fifty thousand animals each year? Did you know that most of them are euthanized? Why? No, the shelter isn't doing anything wrong. They are euthanized for the simple reason that there aren't enough homes here in the Central Valley to adopt them. Oh yes, and because so many Fresno citizens continue to irresponsibly breed their pets or leave pets unaltered thereby adding to the huge pet overpopulation problem.

What Can You Do About It?
* Spay and Neuter Your Pets - Whether it's a cat, dog, or rabbit; it should be spayed or neutered.
* Trap/Neuter/Release (TNR) stray cats in your neighborhood. Can't afford to neuter? Trap them and bring them to the Fresno CCSPCA. Cat owners have a legal responsibility to keep their pets on their property. If the pet is trapped your property, you have the right to bring it to the Fresno SPCA. (However, it is more neighborly that if the pet is wearing identification that you return the pet to the proper household!) Traps can be rented from the CCSPCA, Whitie's Pets, or can be purchased from Kelley's Pet Foods.
* Pick up strays and bring them to our local Animal Control Agency - Keep them safe from traffic, parasites, diseases, and reproducing.
* Spread the Word! - Be an Animal Advocate. Speak out against Friends, Family, and Coworkers who breed, leave their pets unaltered, and support Backyard Breeders (BYBs). What Is a BYB?

Last, but not least:
* TRANSPORT pets from Fresno to accepting rescues all over the State of California!! There are HUNDREDS of rescues all over California AND the United States! Not all areas have a huge overpopulation problem like Fresno, so rescues are able to save and place all of the needy pets from their area and look to rescuing pets from other areas!

Transporters are 100% volunteers - there is no payment for your transporting and there is no reimbursement for gas purchased. However, you get to spend an hour to a couple of hours in the car with pets you know you rescued off the euthanasia list at our local Animal Control Agency and are bringing them to no-kill rescues where they will be properly vetted, spayed or neutered, and placed up for adoption.

We try to get at least one transport to the Bay Area set up each month. The number of pets transported differs and depends greatly on what is being transported and how big your vehicle is. Emmie owns a compact car and has stuffed it full of small breed dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens totalling up to 23 animals! All pets ride in crates as it is much safer for the driver!

There is also a California - Route 99 Transport List which you can join and be notified when a rescue needs help transporting a pet through Fresno over Route 99. Oftentimes there are pets located in Los Angeles trying to get to Sacramento and vice versa. These transports consist of several volunteer transporters who each complete one or two 'legs' of the transport. Through Fresno, the most common legs are from Bakersfield to Fresno (or Fresno to Bakersfield) and Fresno to Modesto (or Modesto to Fresno). These transports are often for just one to two pets travelling from a shelter to a foster home or from a foster home to a forever home.
