Canine Gestation Period | Day 45 (15 pounds, 10 ounces): I went to the vet today for my Ultrasound and X-Rays. My vet, Dr. Karen Whala at Pet Medical Center, says she thinks I'm about 45 days along so I guess I have about 18 more days to go before these puppies are ready to be born! My puppy's bones are starting to calcify and were just starting to show up on the X-Ray they took. Now in my seventh week, I'm acting a little more quiet than normal and prefer to spend time with gentle humans more than the other dogs who keep jumping on me. The size of my abdomen progressively increases as the puppies get bigger in size. They are starting to move around a lot and we saw them kicking yesterday during the Ultrasound. As they get larger, I feel the need to go outside and do my business more often. |
In the eighth week, my nipples will begin to secrete whitish and transparent liquid. I may have 18 days left but Emmie has already begun to prepare my 'nest' for delivery. I'm still getting used to it but I think it will be a nice, quiet, and safe place to whelp my puppies. I'm curious what they will look like and how big they will be. Each puppy in my litter could have a different father!
